Seeing a helpless homeless person or homeless puppies struggling to survive on the streets are scenes that can break anyone’s soul.

And although at times like Christmas, seeing something like this is especially hard, since sensitivity and humanity seem to be on the surface, it should touch us in the depths of our hearts at any time and circumstance of the year.

Jenine-Lacette DShazer was traveling in her car through the streets of Fresno, California, when a moving image powerfully caught her attention.

It was about a man cradling a little dog.

It was a particularly cold day a few days after Christmas Eve, and from a distance you could see that they were having a hard time keeping warm.

Jenine-Lacette brought them a blanket, cat food, and a roll of toilet paper, which was all she had in her car at the time.

The man’s name was Clifford James Herbert; and her dog, Baby. The first thing she did to the poor homeless person was to thank the woman enormously for the attention that the woman had given them.

Jenine-Lacette wanted to know more about him so she could help him, and what she heard broke her heart.

He was sitting on the sidewalk struggling to cover and shelter the dog in her arms with her body.

Previously, Clifford was a farm worker and auto shop owner, as well as a gold guitarist.

However, in 2006 he lost everything he had due to a complication of heart surgery, from which he became disabled.

Because of that he was forced to use a tracheotomy where he places a tube to get air into his lungs, so his voice became almost imperceptible.

It didn’t take long for him to become a homeless man, but that wasn’t all. He had been diagnosed with cancer and only had a few weeks to live.

His biggest concern in his life was undoubtedly his beloved Baby, he wanted to find her a family and that she not be another helpless dog on the streets.

«She is my whole world,» he said in an interview. «Next to her I feel safe and comfortable.»

Clifford had saved Baby from an abusive owner who mistreated her, since then both have helped each other.

That’s when Jenine-Lacette opened a GoFundMe donation account.

Thanks to this brilliant initiative, with the money raised, the first week Clifford was able to feed the dog and rent a room at Crossland, where he would spend the last weeks of his life.

Their last days together, Clifford sweetly played guitar for Baby

During that time, he had the opportunity to see Baby adopted by a family that was willing to love and protect her, just as he had dreamed of.

He would live with other dogs that the family had, he would even have the love of a little girl. Clifford’s Christmas wish was more than fulfilled.

Finally, he would have a new family that would love her forever and in the best way possible.

A new friendship is being born between Baby and his new little human. Although that does not mean that Baby does not forget her favorite human being with whom she lived and suffered so many needs, but with whom she never lacked love and dedication.
