This year’s competition culminated in Mr. Happy Face, a 17-year-old rescued dog, being named the world’s ugliest dog, leaving his mother speechless.

The tournament takes place in the Sonoma-Marin Fairgrounds and Event Center in Petaluma, California, according to the official website. The event is organized to recognize the flaws that make each dog special and unique. The bulk of the contenders, like Mr. Happy Face, were rescue dogs.

Wild Thang, a Pekingese, came in second place, while musician Jeneda Benally and her adored senior dog earned $1,500 (£1,230) and a trip to New York City to appear on the Today Show.

A hairless Chinese crested-Chihuahua mix was rescued from an Arizona shelter in August 2021. Benally said he was a “ancient dog” who wouldn’t last more than a month. People interested in adopting this dog are concerned about its lifetime need for drugs to treat numerous tumors and disorders.

“He was the happiest creature I had ever encountered when I first met him.” “He limped up to me and selected me,” Benally told Today. “I determined that day that he would be so adored that he would forget how horrible his prior existence had been.”

By sharing her senior rescue, the proud dog owner hopes to inspire people to look past physical limitations and age.

“I believe this modest spirit is also serving as a subtle lesson to help people realize that even senior dogs require love and a family,” Benally remarked. She thinks that her love, generosity, and kisses have helped him transcend the projected brief life he would have with her family.

Mr. Happy Face will resume to his customary hobbies after his media appearances, which include playing with his canine siblings, indulging in smelly delicacies, spending time with his mother, and making the most of every day.
