Nearly six weeks after giving birth, the woman felt unwell and exhausted. She felt more and more full, and her belly was growing strangely. She then underwent an ultrasound, and at the surprising discovery, she stiffened.

A few weeks after an exhausting delivery, some mothers feel like they did before pregnancy. For an Australian mother, however, it was quite the opposite.

In January 2016, Eliza Kirby and her boyfriend Ben rejoiced at the birth of a baby girl, Charlie. The couple was looking forward to having a small family, but after six weeks, they found themselves in a dilemma when Eliza’s belly mysteriously swelled.

The Northern Beaches native and her partner Ben became pregnant with their first child after three months of dating. Like Eliza, Ben has always been fascinated by the idea of having children. When Eliza told him the good news, he was thrilled with the idea.

While the first few weeks after giving birth are a rejuvenating period for many young mothers, this was not the case for Eliza. Not only were the first few weeks after giving birth the most difficult, but she was constantly exhausted and felt fuller.

Ben, however, thought it was a joke. The couple had just given birth to their first child and there was no doubt that Eliza would be pregnant again in six weeks. But the mother was not discouraged. She was confused, exhausted and wanted to know the truth.

Out of curiosity, Elisa did a pregnancy test, which was negative. But something broke and she decided to do more tests. But after two weeks and four tests, it was clear: Elisa was pregnant!

The couple couldn’t believe their eyes. They immediately rushed to the doctor to confirm the news. The doctor sent them for an ultrasound, completely stunned. That’s when other shocking details were revealed.

Thankfully, Eliza’s pregnancy didn’t turn out to be as difficult as she had imagined. Her twins reached 36 weeks and even passed the 3 kg test. In just 11 months, Elisa gave birth to three babies, two of them consecutively! However, the expansion of the family forced them to change their initial plans for the baby.
