A stray dog became a hero after saving the life of a newborn «floating on a pile of garbage» in the waters of Sitio Camansi, in Cebu’s Lapu-Lapu City, Philippines.
The dog was spotted by local Vilma Toring, who noticed that the dog was pulling a white cloth from the garbage pile under some houses on stilts in the middle of the afternoon.
Toring immediately heard a baby’s cry and went to investigate and found a little girl with her umbilical cord and placenta still intact.
The baby was covered in dirt and had been swaddled in the white cloth that the dog tore off.
According to SunStar Cebu, authorities believe the baby was born in the early morning and then abandoned. They are currently interviewing local residents to see if they can find the infant’s parents.
The baby was taken to hospital for treatment and underwent a full check-up.
There is currently no word about what happened to the stray dog that saved the baby.
